Clamshell Pearl BlackBerry - You'll flip

blackberry-clamshell-pearl.jpg

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard that RIM (Research in Motion) is expected to launch the BlackBerry Bold - the latest update to its popular family of mobile devices - in the U.S.

What you may not have heard is that it's expected to be followed up by a clamshell version (fold-up) of the BlackBerry Pearl, called the "Flip." Look for the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 smartphone to hit the market later this fall (it's already out in Canada), aimed directly at the Motorola RAZR customers whose users number more than 110 million. (Some lucky tech fiends got to see it in action at the wireless industryĆ¢€™s big confab, CTIA, and give it high marks.)

No price was given for the device, which will be available in the U.S. under an exclusive deal with T-Mobile sometime this fall.

Some specs:

Media player Ć¢€“ turn it on its side to enjoy videos in widescreen
Camera and video recording
Wi-Fi and video streaming
Large screen for games and maps
